Anthropogenic activities and their impacts.
Anthropogenic activities
In this blog, you will get superficially familiar with the term, anthropogenic activities as well as its hazardous impacts which causing harm to mother earth. Learning about such activities should be on prior tasks, as being human we have to be curious regarding how to save mother earth? what activities should not be done which causing harm to earth? and so on.
Anthropogenic activities
What are the anthropogenic activities?
The word anthropogenic itself giving a significant clue about the term i.e. study of birth as well as creation of human being. Anthropogenic activity includes all sort of human activities or human based impacts regardless of nature influences. Most frequently, it underlies under the genre of negative influence made by humans. Though, the term is not common as it usually be considered as jargon related to environmental sciences, life sciences etc.
Paradigm of anthropogenic activities.
Anthropogenic activities are so vast that it is almost impossible to address all of them under single blog thereby i am going to add some of the most common example which always been at top list.
- Incineration as well as combustion of fuel.
- Deforestation.
- Dumping of waste vigorously.
- Plastic pollution.
- Smoke production
- Industrial effluent drainage to water body.
- Aggressive usage of pesticide.
- Oil spills.
- Habitat degradation.
- Hunting and poaching of wildlife.
and much more yet to be involved which leads to causing flaw in regular mechanisms of mother earth.
What are the impacts of anthropogenic activities?
It is obvious that every evil deed imparts certain horrible consequences same in this regard be a case. When we talk about incineration or combustion of fuel, it clearly emphasising the extent of outcomes would be if it is going to be happen frequently whereby ultimately leads to abrupt decline in sustainability towards consumption of fossil fuel. Burning activity contributes huge proportion of carbon dioxide production causing global warming in turn.
Deforestation is not just cutting of entire forest but also unwanted killing of all such creatures which exist due to forest. These are our natural ventilators on which we are not even spending a penny.
Dumping of waste material considered to be one of the crucial risk factor causing not only harm to mother earth but also reservoir to many disease carrying vectors as well as pathogenic organisms. One of the most widely dumped material is plastic which is persistent and non biodegradable.
Industrial smoke contains different chemicals such as sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide etc. leads to production of acid rain which itself causing much of harm at different parameters such as destruction of metal and metal related products, can decrease the pH of aquatic body causing increase in acidity and ultimately death of aquatic organisms.
Untreated effluents when dumped in aquatic body, results in turbidity of water, reduction of available dissolved oxygen hence, suffocation of aerobic organisms. Certain chemicals might be life threatening as Benzene, arsenic, uranium etc. as these are highly carcinogenic. Many chemicals persist higher ability of bioaccumulation and biomagnification through the entire food chain or food web.
Most of us only aware about front end significance of pesticide usage in order to get rid of pesticide but few are well familiar about demerits and harm causing by it. Whenever, agricultural run off comprising pesticide residues enters in the aquatic body, it leads to rapid growth of algae what we called as eutrophication or algal bloom. Which is possibly a chance as these pesticide contains mainly nitrogen and phosphorous derivatives which are the necessary chemicals stimulating rapid growth of algae. When these rapid algal bloom gets died, it requires abundant of dissolved oxygen for the decay process thereby causing major decline in the ratio of available dissolved oxygen for aquatic life.
Habitat is simply a place where an organism live and pursue basic necessities of life. Now it is well understood that if such place became vanished then all sort of life related to it will also be disappeared. Forests are the major region which inhabits couple of living organisms. Due to over population since past few decades, humans are thriving eagerly to turn the forest into desert. Apart from basic life necessities, forests are being degraded for personnel charm and benefit which is quite cruel act. Bizarre fishing and usage of huge trawlers playing crucial role in degradation of habitat of marine organisms, destroying an entire community.
Nature gave us abundant of active recreational spots and its key elements are wildlife. These are built-in charm of mother earth and a significant sign of peace as well. Recent anthropogenic activities made many of wild organisms under the list of endangered as well as critically endangered as per IUCN red list. Hunting of threatened organisms surpassing the threshold. Recreational hunting is widely common practice around the varied region of the globe whose outcomes been neglected.
Impacts are countless and each impact itself imparting further consequences. All such activities are mostly considered to be an active rights by the violating personnels along with entire absence of regression. Violating the laws of nature and manipulating its usual mechanism imposing its extreme results. By the recent time, we all are observing that how harsh climatic condition becoming every day. Floods, hurricanes, heat strokes, aggressive wave patterns, sea and soil erosion etc. Now question arise that we are talking here about anthropogenic activities and these are natural disasters, then how these are interlinked? Let's suppose, we are getting involved in combustion related activity on regular basis which as a result, releasing carbon dioxide and other related gases. Now these gases will move to atmospheric belt of mother earth, increasing the normal proportion of sunlight trapping, causing extreme warm condition and setting the temperature enough to physically change the water into vapours, forming clouds and bursting into rain at extreme level ultimately causing uncontrolled flow of water towards town leading to urban flood. Now when such water become stagnant, it might leads to several water and vector-born diseases hence, the results are linked in a chain manner.
How to abate the consequences?
Subsiding the level of consequences is the task which cannot be attained over night. Active role should be played by each of us at varied level to eradicate such problems. Say no to excessive and unnecessary as well as burning activities, cutting of trees without planting new ones, plastic pollution, dumping of waste apart from landfills, pouring the hazardous chemicals in the aquatic body, killing of wildlife. Apart from personnel initiative, there is utmost need for making legal organisation, laws and its strict implementation. Only together we can save the mother earth.
I would love to read back from you all, stay in touch for having more life or environmental science related blogs.
